Yam is a tuber,you can call it a root, whatever name you give to it,yam has become one of the world amazing food. 
yams can be found in several  African countries,Asian, and some countries  in latin America,in African   Nigeria is the leading producer of yams,in fact the country produces over 75% of the world production,because of the massive land in the northern part of  the country,i want to specifically figure out some significant states that produces most of  this yams in Nigeria,Benue state is leading the road, is estimated that  Benue state alone exports 19.8 metric tonnes of yam to United kingdom in a daily basis according to Daily Trust news paper of 25,April 2018, follows by Taraba,Nasarawa,and Adamawa state,because of the health benefits people derive from eating yams,people in the northern Nigeria can not do without yams,the states mentioned above takes care of the  entire nation huge population,interms of yam supply.
there are many ways of eating yams,you can cook yams as  purriache,is also possible to eat yam by pounding it then you  chew it with either stew or very delicious soup.some people in Africa can even boil a yam and then eat it using oil palm that is well ganished with different  African spices.
 even though yam has existed in this part of the world before it became the global food,it doesn't mater how you cook yam in your own part of the world,what maters is you need yam in  your diet
